Alasdair Hay was born and grew up in Edinburgh before moving to Essex in 1983 to join the fire brigade. He transferred to Tayside Fire and Rescue Service in 1994 and, following further progression, was promoted to Chief Fire Officer in April 2012. On 16th August 2012, Alasdair was announced as the first Chief Fire Officer of the new single Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which was launched on April 1st 2013.
