The Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau has recently confirmed that DP World, one of the world’s biggest port operators, has been named as its Premier Global Trade Partner. DP World will play an important role in securing the huge supply chain for Expo 2020.
The Gulf region’s global influence and its building boom gained a significant impetus in 2014, when Dubai became the first Middle East country to be awarded the five-yearly global EXPO show to be held in the Emirate in 2020. This event will literally bring the world to Dubai’s door during the six-month long show. According to a recent industry report (the Venture Onsite Report), major building projects worth AED 1.2 trillion are currently underway in the GCC region alone.
Port operator DP World will play an important role in the huge supply chain for the Expo 2020, a six-month trade fair that is expected to attract 25 million visitors.
“Through this agreement with DP World and our other partners, Expo 2020 Dubai will leave an economic legacy in the form of new business generation, GDP growth and job creation across the region” said Reem Al Hashemi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General Bureau Expo Dubai 2020.
The partnership with DP World means that countries participating in Expo 2020 will be able to use ports in their home countries and Jebel Ali Port for their transport requirements as they prepare to take part in the event.
The agreement will also offer opportunities for DP World to enhance its international profile and build partnerships with the event’s participants, which will include nations, corporations and multilateral organisations. The Premier Partnership, the highest of three tiers in Expo 2020’s partnership programme, grants exclusive marketing rights and benefits to DP World, as well as the opportunity to have its own pavilion during the Expo.
