Families across Thanet look set to enjoy the area’s newest and largest fun day dedicated to family safety, on Saturday 9July 2016.
‘Safer Thanet Day’, which is being held from 10am until 4pm at Sainsbury’s Westwood Cross car park, will give people the chance to look around some of the vehicles used in emergencies, the opportunity to speak to the teams responsible for keeping people safe, from Kent’s emergency services and other organisations including:
- Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS)
- South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb)
- SECAmb Hazardous Area Response Team (HART)
- Kent Police
- Margate Task Force
- Kent County Council (KCC)
- Ministry of Defence
- Kent Search and Rescue
- Army Cadets
- Sea Cadets
- Thanet District Council
- British Red Cross
- National Coast Watch
The event has been coordinated by Kent Fire and Rescue Service with support from Sainsbury’s. Family safety is at the heart of the day, which is free and open to everyone in the community.
Red Watch Manager at Margate, Nick Salt said: “This open day is sure to be a great free family day out – not to be missed. Each organisation is promising to showcase what they do and how their work supports the community, and with helpful advice for families to take away to put to good use.
“Throughout the day KFRS will give visitors the opportunity to get involved with some of the kit we use and to get up close to our fire engines, ladders and hydraulic rescue equipment. Our community safety team will also be on hand to give advice to help people live safer lives.”
There will also be the chance for the kids to enjoy having their face painted.
The event promises family fun with opportunities to get to know all the different services that are in Thanet to help keep families safe.
Nick added: “We would love to see as many people from our local community there as possible – come along and join us for a fun family day out.”
