A Fathers instinct and the memory of a previous tragedy led to the successful location and rescue of 17-year-old Sam Lethbridge from his badly damaged car on a remote part of a New South Wales Highway. Sam had been travelling to a friends house on Sunday when the accident occurred.
Sams family became concerned when he failed to arrive at his planned destination and called the Police. The memory of an incident in which a driver perished through not being discovered after an accident a number of years ago led Tony to take direct action to try to locate his son. In that incident, a driver was not found for many days and tragically died.
Tony suspected his Son was in trouble as his disappearance was out of character. He took the decision to hire a helicopter to carry out a search of the area.
That decision proved to be the right one. Tony and the helicopter’s pilot located Sams car within ten minutes and directed emergency crews to the scene. Sam was successfully rescued after being trapped in his damaged car for around 30 hours.
