On February 26th, Middlewich firefighter Ashley Powell will be running 46 floors to the top of Beetham Tower in Manchester to raise money for The Christie Hospital, Europe’s largest single-site cancer centre.
Ashley will be running up a whopping 798 stairs in the name of cancer prevention. Not only that, but he’s pledged to make a special effort to raise as much money as possible.
“To increase the challenge, and encourage people to donate more, I will be ‘running’ this event in full fire kit whilst carrying a 12kg breathing apparatus set.
“The Christie supports the development of cancer prevention, treatment, research and education through investment in staff, equipment, facilities and other support services, so it’s an amazing cause!
“My aim is to complete this challenge in under 30 minutes! So, if you want to help me ‘feel the burn’ then please donate!”
Ashley Powell is an on-call firefighter with the Service and a full-time Emergency Service Technician for the North West Ambulance Service. He is stepping up to support The Christie in all aspects of their work.
