Ensuring firefighter safety is something we should agree on. The recognition of carcinogens remaining on personal protective equipment (PPE) has resulted in a structured cleaning approach in Fire and Rescue Services, but what about the person wearing PPE?
Global studies found cancer is the leading cause of death for firefighters, with firefighters more than four times as likely to be diagnosed with cancer in comparison to the average working person.
De-Wipe products have been designed and tested to provide immediate and long-lasting protection from hazardous contaminants. Therefore, De-Wipe is considered a simple solution to firefighter and first responder safety, welfare and hygiene on scene.
All products support the long-term health of workers worldwide with decontamination solutions scientifically proven to eliminate the most harmful carcinogenic toxins and pollutants, reducing the risk of occupational cancer and disease.
Why not just use a regular wipe?
Regular alcohol-based wipes or baby wipes might be good for killing germs and bacteria, but they won’t be successful in removing carcinogenic pollutants that absorb through the skin.
Alcohol commonly found in other sanitising products destroys your skin’s protective surface. Its prolonged use can also damage hard surfaces and expensive equipment. However, all De-Wipe products contain zero alcohol and are scientifically proven to eliminate toxins from skin, equipment and surfaces.
Scientific evidence
De-Wipe conducted a landmark study with leading professors at Manchester Metropolitan University to test De-Wipe’s effectiveness at removing carcinogenic pollutants from skin – the results are overwhelmingly positive, showing De-Wipe decontamination wipes remove the most harmful dioxins and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from skin.
Dr Megson stated: ‘The one thing we can say positively now is that De-Wipe are effectively removing pollutants from a variety of different surfaces and were able to remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and were able to remove dioxins,’ and also confirms ‘It appears to be easier to remove the pollutants from the skin than any other surface.’
De-Wipe product range
After the positive feedback from the decontamination wipes, De-Wipe knew they could not stop there and continued to expand their product range of decontamination, with currently four products on the market. De-Wipe are continuing vital research and innovative product development.
Hair and body wash
Recent research conducted by senior toxicology professors indicates that harmful toxins are entering the body not just through inhalation – toxin-rich compounds present in carcinogenic soot and dust absorb at an alarming rate through skin.
Harnessing the same cancer-fighting power as their scientifically proven after-fire wipes, De-Wipe Hair & Body Wash is the only scientific solution formulated to wash carcinogenic toxins in soot and smoke from your hair, scalp and body, leaving you clean, invigorated and odour-free.

Equipment wipes
De-Wipe then began to fight cross-contamination, again using the same scientifically proven formula condensed into a wipe that’s rugged and tear resistance – perfect to use vigorously on equipment, vehicles, helmets, face masks, gloves and PPE.
The equipment wipes remove impurities and cleans kit without any damage and is safe to use on a range of materials including composites, polymers, EPDM, metals, PVC and more.
Alcohol-free sanitiser wipes
De-Wipe Alcohol Free Sanitiser Wipes contain non-alcohol-based broad-range antimicrobials. These are key ingredients that kill tough bacteria and viruses in seconds without soap and water. They’re kind to your skin’s natural defences and won’t deteriorate hard surfaces.
De-Wipes are made in the UK and come in a variety of sizes. They are available as individual wipes or in a multi pack. All De-Wipe products are biodegradable, so you can be clean and green.
De-Wipe believe it is important that we act together in ensuring firefighters’ safety. It is important that people are vigilant, starting with post fire. Get clean with De-Wipe.
