The first tranche of speakers for AFAC22 powered by INTERSCHUTZ has been revealed with not for profit founder and terror attack survivor, globally revered researchers and fire protection leaders among the line-up.
Following the breadth and calibre of speakers at the highly acclaimed AFAC21, this year’s conference is set to fortify the event’s stellar reputation on 23-26 August 2022 at Adelaide Convention Centre. Speaking to the theme Connecting communities. Creating resilience, AFAC22 keynote keynotes will include Dr Gill Hicks, Artist, Published Author, Musician and Award-winning Director/Producer; Mr Jim Pauley, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA); Dr Robert Glasser, Head of the Climate and Security Policy Centre, Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI); and Lucas Patchett, OAM and Nicholas Marchesi, OAM, Co-founders of Orange Sky.
Dr Gill Hicks
Dr Hicks is a powerful and thought-provoking communicator, sharing her insights on life after death. Her vital work, particularly in countering violent extremism, became her focus after she was left severely and permanently injured from the actions of a suicide bomber in the co-ordinated attack on London’s transport network in July, 2005. Prior to the bombings, Gill was a respected figure within the fields of Architecture and Design in London, where she lived for over 20 years. Gill has been recognised and awarded for her many contributions to the Arts, Health care and Peace Building.
Mr Jim Pauley
Jim Pauley is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a global self-funded non-profit organisation devoted to eliminating death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Fire Protection Research Foundation, the research affiliate of NFPA.
Dr Robert Glasser
Robert Glasser is the Head of the Climate and Security Policy Centre at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). He was previously the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the United Nations Office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). He was a member of the Secretary General’s Senior Management Group and the Deputy Secretary General’s Climate Principals Group.
Dr Glasser has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner, advocate and policy-maker in the areas of climate change, sustainable development and disaster
response.
Nicholas Marchesi, OAM and Lucas Patchett, OAM
The 2016 Young Australians of the Year, Nicholas and Lucas are the two mates, who at age twenty, founded Orange Sky – a world-first, free mobile laundry and shower service supporting people experiencing homelessness or doing it tough. On a mission to improve hygiene standards, Nic and Lucas stumbled on something much bigger and more significant – the power of a conversation.
Orange Sky was founded in 2014. Seven years on, Orange Sky now operate 35 services across 25 locations across the country, with thousands of volunteers giving their time each week to help positively connect some of the 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness.
Dr Niki Vincent, Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner, Victorian Government
Dr Niki Vincent was appointed as Victoria’s first Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner in September 2020. She is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Gender Equality Act 2020 and plays a key leadership role in promoting gender equality in the Victorian community and workplaces.
Dr Vincent has a wealth of experience in gender equality and organisational leadership. This includes serving as the South Australian Commissioner for Equal Opportunity from 2016-2020. In addition, Niki is an active ambassador for Time for Kids – a respite foster care organisation – and sits on the board of InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence.
Showcasing the future of emergency management innovation
Complementing the conference, AFAC22 trade exhibition will feature the most comprehensive range of emergency management related exhibiting organisations from all over the world. On show will be the latest and most exciting tools and technologies designed for the advancement of the industry.
