In the fight against Covid-19, so many people have kept the country going – frontline medical staff and essential workers alike. They’ve all played a part in the fight against the worst crisis the country has faced since the war.
For industry leaders and company owners, the question now becomes, how do we reward our staff? In a time of economic uncertainty, committing to pay rises or promotions is not an avenue many can offer. Even one-off morale-boosting events such as an office summer party is impossible due to social distancing regulations.
Gifting seems to be the preferred route, with many employees posting pictures of flowers, sweets and treats sent to them by their employers. However, some leaders are taking the next step and gifting staff something they can keep forever.
The Heroes of 2020 Pure Silver Medals have 12 designs available online to purchase with all profits donated to NHS Charities Together, a registered charity in England & Wales (no. 1186569). The total donation is expected to be £2,000,000.
The key workers that feature on the front of the medal are doctors, nurses and carers, ambulance crews, NHS volunteers, pharmacists and pharmacy workers, police, the armed forces and reservists, firefighters, teachers, prison services and essential workers. The obverse of the medal is inspired by the George Cross and features an interpretation of the classic St George and the Dragon design.
Simon Mellinger, managing director of Sterling Mint comments: “It has been interesting to see just how many bosses have been in contact to order medals for their staff. It is clear people want to thank staff in a meaningful way for all they have done since the crisis began. As we see staff starting to return to their offices and stores, bosses are looking for a way to commemorate the moment by presenting team members a medal. Our ‘Observed lockdown’ medal, in particular, has been popular.”
Gifting a medal also helps with the ongoing fight against Covid-19, with all profits from their sales going to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal, which supports NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by Covid-19 across the country.
Gifting staff medals ultimately expresses gratitude for the bravery and hard work they have displayed through these trying times.
