Kronenburg proves strike power, serial production for Rotterdam

At Interschutz in 2010 Kronenburg re-introduced itself as a manufacturer of fire engines. Since then they have delivered 97 ARFF trucks and over 150 municipal and industrial fire fighting vehicles. After having operated as service and parts supplier for a couple of years, the company is back in business. The most recent delivery consists of 48 municipal fire vehicles for the Safety Region Rotterdam (VRR). The range consists of the SMP (Standard municipal pumper truck), the Strike Power (Municipal Pumper with extra equipment) and the Rescue-combi (Rescue Pumper combination).

Rotterdam Region chose to centralize and came to a desired fleet of 48 vehicles in three different versions. The vehicles therefore become interchangeable, but also training, given by Kronenburg to the Rotterdam instructors, can now be centralized. Kronenburg produces this batch within the limits of the VRR budget and also refurbishes their existing trucks. The company is a total supplier of chassis to packaging and cooperates with well-known subcontractors. Part of the maintenance contract, for the 15-year partnership, is the delivery of an identical replacement truck when a vehicle comes in for servicing.

CE Certification
The extensive project called for close cooperation between Kronenburg design engineers and the Rotterdam fire brigade. The focus was on 100% identical vehicles, high quality and 100% convenience of use. The Rescue-combi in this range is quite unique. It is a combination of a rescue vehicle and a water tender but only 30 cm longer than the regular fire engines. Kronenburg and the VRR managed to obtain full CE-certification for body structure as well as for all equipment stored in it.

Kronenburg not only proves to be an innovative company being capable of serial truck builds in response to specific customer needs, but also is it able to refurbish vehicles in a lean manufacturing process. Because the composite structure of Kronenburg will last for decades only the chassis needs to be replaced during the midlife turn of a vehicle. Customers can thus enter into a long-term partnership with Kronenburg.

Given this strong, challenging Rotterdam-case, Kronenburg confirms the traditional pillars the company was long well known for: high quality, product reliability and easy operations and maintenance. “The Rotterdam vehicles stood the test.”

Kronenburg presents their new vehicles and ideas for the future at the Interschutz 2015 exhibition in Hall 27, Stand E04, to prove that qualities of the past can offer all the great promises for the future…
