Cleveland Fire Brigade is currently seeking a Head of Fire Engineering which is aligned to the role of Fire Safety Competent Manager under the Fire Safety Competency Framework; to lead the department and further enhance their building safety services.
Cleveland Fire Brigade is a leading and high performing fire and rescue service in the North East of England.
The Brigade operates across the whole of the Cleveland area, covering 4 Local Authorities and serving 566,150 residents as well as those who travel into or visit the area. It is a trusted organisation with an enviable reputation for public safety.
Their Prevention and Protection services are at the heart of improving business safety across Cleveland for over 15,000 non-residential premises and a significant number of high hazard industrial sites. Cleveland has 8% of the UK’s COMAH sites, 29 of which are ‘Top Tier’ along with a number of renewable energy farms and power stations, one being a nuclear power station with 2 reactors.
The Protection team focuses on delivering the Authority’s duty to enforce the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 via its risk-based inspection programme. In the HMICFRS Inspection during 2019 the Cleveland Fire Brigade Fire Protection services were assessed as ‘Good’ within the area of ‘Protecting the Public through Fire Safety legislation’.
In 2018 / 2019 the Brigade completed the 2nd highest number of fire safety audits per 10,000 properties nationally; 913 audits per 10,000 properties compared to the national average of 262 per 10,000 properties.
The Brigade attends on average 62 fires a year in commercial premises, equating to an average of 4 incidents for every 1000 commercial premises within its area. This is a testament to the high level of audits completed and the Brigade’s proactive approach to supporting local businesses, addressing and resolving issues with building owners and their ‘Responsible Persons’.
