Finding fame as one of the world’s leading suppliers of protection products, Packexe® is today known throughout the rescue services for its innovative safety product, Packexe® SMASH. Now an essential part of an extrication kit for many fire and rescue teams, the time critical glass management tool is celebrating its 10th year.
With an increasing number of firefighter call outs to Road Traffic accidents across the globe, providing fast rescue for casualties is vital. Packexe® SMASH ensures that vehicle glass is managed while extrication is taking place. With the application of Packexe® SMASH, the glass is securely held, allowing emergency personnel to cut through vehicles without risking injury, as well as offering protection for those trapped inside the vehicle.
Since introducing SMASH to the rescue services ten years ago, the product has become a favourable choice amongst extraction teams worldwide and is now used by Rescue Services in over 50 countries. SMASH has continued to grow in popularity and the product range has expanded to include a SMASH kit and partnering tool Packexe® Sharpswrap.
Over the years Packexe® CEO Andrew Orchard has followed SMASH around the globe, clocking up over 200,000 air miles. From visiting Rescue challenges in France and Spain to delivering training in Japan and South Korea and buying teams the odd beer along the way, Andrew has been fortunate enough to see teams of dedicated firefighters use Packexe® SMASH in all manner of test scenarios and hear their stories of how Packexe® SMASH has become a vital part of their rescue kit.
Saving time at the scene of an accident is the purpose behind all Packexe® Rescue products. Introducing the dispenser reduced the number of team members needed to use the product and shortened application time by minutes. Valuable time in a lifesaving scenario.
The product itself is as innovative as the ways it is now used. In 2015 an Ambulance team in Northern Sweden used SMASH to reduce the spread of Ebola, Tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. Having seen the product used in extrication situations, a member of the Sundsvall Ambulance crew suggested replicating its use inside Ambulances. The SMASH film was unrolled and trimmed to cover the whole Ambulance interior and proved to be an effective preventative measure.

Not only favoured by the rescue services SMASH has, in recent times, become a helping hand for window installers. A UK based company, Wessex Windows, were working in a fire station when they saw Packexe® SMASH in use. They now use the specially designed self-adhesive film to make glass management easy. They simply apply the roll of SMASH protection film across the glass so that it is stronger and less likely to break. If it does break, the glass sticks to the film and is easily removed to safety. Working in environments where safety is key, such as Schools, Wessex Windows found SMASH to be an excellent solution to the potential problem of glass shards being left behind after a job.
With the popularity of SMASH continuing to grow, Packexe® remains committed to delivering quality solutions driven by the real-life requirements of the emergency services, who demand the very best kit, for the toughest of jobs.
