Underground fires prove difficult to extinguish and need much water over a long period of time.
At the Camperdown peat fire a chopper, pumps and the CFA Scoresby Hytrans Hose Layer proved to be a great combination for assistance.
To get the water to location 1,500 metres (!) of yellow 100mm hose was quickly deployed.
After the CFA laid out all that large diameter hose over soft ground and steep slopes and the chopper put the pumps (including Big Fill from Narre Waren Fire Brigade) in place, the ground monitors could start doing their job fed by a continuous water flow of 2,000 litres per minute.
Meanwhile intense smoke forced people out of their houses and farms.
A challenging fire, but CFA has the teams and the gear for a great response.
