As Part 2 of my article dealing with Terrorism on ferries has just been published in the latest issue of ‘International Fire Fighter (IFF) magazine” there was an explosion on a ferry in a vacation port in Mexico.
At the time of this writing it is not known what caused the blast however, even if it was accidental, the results were similar to the damage and injuries you could expect at one of the terrorist attacks described in my article. In videos of the incident (available on YouTube) you can see the blast blowing out the windows of both sides of the ferry and leaving a gaping hole in the side of the vessel.
There were several ferries loading and unloading passengers at the time of the blast, so glass and metal fragments had no shortage of targets as the dock was crowded at the time. It was estimated that 25 people were injured. Luckily, at this incident, none of the injuries were considered life threatening.
Part 1 of my article ran in the December 2017 issue of International Fire Fighter magazine and is available for download from www.iffmag.com
