The dates are set and applications are open for the next United Kingdom Firefighters Sailing Challenge (UKFSC).
The event organisers have been working hard over the winter months, building on the success of last year’s event to make UKFSC 2017 the best ever emergency services sailing regatta. There is a new event date, a few weeks later than previous dates and we welcome our new Gold Sponsor; E.P. Barrus and a new Supporter; ConsortiQ Integrated Drone Solutions, who join our long standing sponsors and supporters. There will be more photo and video coverage and live streaming of the action to make the event better than ever for spectators as well as competitors.
The organisers are hoping to top previous years’ entries with 28 or more crews competing this year, at least one of which will be an all-women firefighters boat, returning to continue the successes of last year.
Dates
8th May 2017 to 11th May 2017
The boats may be collected on the Sunday for a practice day on the Monday if booked in advance.
Venue
Sunsail Port Solent Hampshire
Racing will take place in the waters of the Solent off the Isle of Wight on the UKs south coast and will include overnight marina berthing in West Cowes.
Boats
All boats are identical 40’ Sunsail sailing yachts which are modern, well equipped, fast and fun. There is an option to sail with or without a spinnaker depending on crew experience.
Crew
Each crew can be up to 10 persons and the boats can be sailed effectively with 7 or 8 and there are opportunities for those with less experience to take part alongside more seasoned sailors.
Cost
The cost per person is very good value for an event like this and will vary slightly depending on crew numbers on each boat and whether the training day option is taken up. As an indication, a boat with a crew of 9 and taking the training day option the cost per person would be £249.
The cost breakdown is as follows:
Boat charter = £1190
Team entry = £800
Training day = £250
