Waterous Company, a world leader in firefighting equipment, has been manufacturing products in South St. Paul, Minnesota for over 136 years. Since its humble beginnings, Waterous has continued to develop revolutionary products for firefighting and industrial applications. From constructing the first gasoline-engine-driven fire pump in 1898 to the most efficient compressed air foam systems (CAFS) in the world today, Waterous has maintained a legacy of supporting the global fire service and industry with fire-suppression products, equipment and services that meet international demand.
Waterous also developed a range of products for industrial applications. Those product offerings include nuclear cooling, high rail operation, de-icing, decoking/descaling, refuelling, Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF), insulator washing, street sweeping, containerized protection and more.
Many of Waterous’ developments were industry firsts, including the first fire truck that used the vehicle engine to drive both the truck and the fire pump. Here are just a few examples: Flame Plated Impeller hubs provide four to five times more life expectancy of the hub of the impeller. Labyrinth-Style Wear Rings appreciably restrict recirculation and improve overall efficiency and longevity of the wear ring. The Chain-Drive Transmission provides the smoothest, quietest and most efficient transfer of power from the vehicle’s driveline to the fire pump. Separable impeller shaft assembly on CS/CSU, CM/CMU pumps allows for the removal of the pump from the transmission without having to remove both items from the apparatus. Eclipse CAFSystem, known as the ‘King of CAFS’ in the industry, was one of the first midship, fully integrated compressed air foam systems on the market. Aquis Foam Proportioners provide systems that deliver the most balanced water to foam ratio in the industry.
The Waterous innovative spirit continues today. Waterous introduced new products that change how the industry will fight fires in the future. From our ULTRAFLOW Industrial Foam System to the HLU wildland-style pump, our commitment remains to provide the fire service with the tools needed to fight modern day fires.
